Assessment Framework

At Concordia Lutheran School, we believe that assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Our assessment framework is designed to provide a comprehensive and balanced approach to evaluating student performance, promoting growth, and informing instructional decisions. By incorporating both summative and formative assessments, we aim to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Summative Assessments:

Our summative assessments consist of two major examinations throughout the academic year. The Mid-year Examination, conducted at the end of Term 1, assesses the knowledge and skills acquired by students during the first half of the year. The Uniform Tests and Final Examination, held in the middle and at the end of Term 2, evaluate the student's understanding and application of concepts learned throughout the entire academic year. These summative assessments provide a formal measure of student achievement and help determine their progress in relation to the curriculum objectives.

Formative Assessments:

In addition to summative assessments, we place a strong emphasis on formative assessments to support student learning and provide ongoing feedback. Formative assessments include progressive tests, homework assignments, projects, and presentations. These assessments are designed to monitor student progress, identify areas of strength and weakness, and provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding in various ways. Teachers use the data gathered from formative assessments to adapt their teaching strategies, provide targeted support, and ensure that students are on track to meet the learning objectives.

Assessment for Learning:

We view assessment as a tool for learning rather than merely a means of evaluation. Our teachers use assessment data to analyse student performance, reflect on the effectiveness of their teaching methods, and make informed decisions about instructional pacing and differentiation. By carefully examining assessment results, teachers can identify patterns, gaps, and areas that require additional attention. This allows them to adapt their teaching approaches, provide personalized feedback, and create targeted interventions to support individual student needs.

Proportional Weightage:

To ensure a fair and balanced assessment system, we have assigned proportional weightage to assessments conducted in each term. Term 1 assessments, including the Mid-year Examination and formative assessments, account for 30% of the student's overall grade. Term 2 assessments, including the Final Examination and formative assessments, contribute 70% to the student's overall grade. This proportional weightage reflects the cumulative nature of learning and allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of student performance throughout the academic year.

We are committed to using assessment as a powerful tool to support student learning, provide meaningful feedback, and inform instructional practices. By combining summative and formative assessments, we aim to create a holistic assessment framework that enables students to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and growth. Our teachers actively engage with assessment data to ensure that every student receives the support and guidance they need to reach their full potential.
