Learning
Science Education

Aims

The Science Education Key Learning Area (KLA) is an integral part of the school curriculum that provides a wide range of learning experiences for students to:

  • Develop scientific literacy with a firm foundation in science, realise the important relationship among science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and master integration and application of relevant knowledge and skills across KLAs; and
  • Develop positive values and attitudes for personal development and for contributing to a scientific and technological world in the 21st century

Subjects

  • At the junior secondary level (S1-3), the Integrated Science curriculum enables students to develop their scientific knowledge and skills and provide a firm foundation for them to pursue their studies at the senior secondary level.
  • At the senior secondary level (S4-6), students can extend their learning by studying one or more Science elective subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or by engaging in science-related learning activities.

Learning Goals

  • Nurturing students’ interest in science and related disciplines
  • Emphasising students’ development of scientific thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strengthening students’ ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills (including hands-on skills)
  • Fostering students’ sense of making informed judgements based on scientific evidence
  • Nurturing students to become self-directed learners of science
  •  Embracing students with different needs and aspirations

Learning and Teaching of Science

In our school, we employ a diverse range of learning and teaching activities to enhance the Science curriculum. These activities include practical experiments, investigations, discussions, role-plays, debates, field trips, science video viewing, engaging in intriguing science activities, and problem-based learning. Our aim is to foster deep learning competencies among students, enabling them to acquire, integrate, and apply knowledge and skills to solve authentic and real-life problems. Additionally, we integrate STEAM-related projects to stimulate students' interest, encourage innovation, and develop their ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills across different disciplines.
