Inter-House Activities

Background and Origin of the Four Houses System

  • Originating from the British school's house system, each student is assigned to a house upon enrollment, and this house identity stays with the student throughout their academic journey.

  • The Four Houses System divides the student population into smaller communities, fostering a sense of belonging among the students.

  • By organizing students from different grades, the Four Houses System helps establish a support network.

  • While strengthening cohesion within each house, the leaders of the four houses gradually develop distinct characteristics and traits for their respective house.

  • Various competitions and activities are organized to promote positive competition among the houses, encouraging students to strive for excellence as a collective unit.

The Four Houses in Concordia Lutheran School

  • Initiated in the 1970s

  • Named after the four biblical gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, with each house represented by a different color - red, blue, green, and yellow.

Origin of the Four House Emblems

  • The four house emblems draw inspiration from the representation of the four Gospel authors, based on the "four living creatures" described in Revelation 4:7-8:

"The first living creature was like a lion, the second creature like a calf, the third creature had a face like that of a man, and the fourth creature was like an eagle in flight. The four living creatures, each having six wings, were covered with eyes all around, even under their wings. Day and night they never stop saying: 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.'"
  • The "four living creatures" continuously praise God day and night. The four houses adopt this emblem to symbolize students in Concordia Lutheran School, praising God daily, and living a joyful and vibrant campus life.

Inter-House Competition – Shield of the Houses

  • The Student Union and various subject committees of the school organize inter-house competitions in different categories. Each inter-house competition is scored, and the house with the highest cumulative score throughout the academic year is awarded the "Shield of the Houses" Additionally, the society that earns the shield is represented by a colorful flag that is displayed on campus, fostering a sense of belonging among students.

  • There are three major inter-house events each year, with the highest scoring potential: "Athletics Meet," "Music Day," and "Academic Evaluation."

  • Other inter-house activities consist of team-based events in various domains, including sports, arts, and academic disciplines.

  • Each house is allowed to use a "Wildcard" once per academic year. Projects or events that use the "Wildcard" will have double points calculated, and the house chairperson must propose its usage before the start of the competition ("Athletics Meet," "Music Day," and "Academic Evaluation" cannot use the "Wildcard").
